Cleric or Thief?
I heard these are the two funnest characters.
I play on the Universal RPG server (great server) and im guessing the character classes are the same on all servers. I am going to try to make a dedicted character and i just wanna know what one to pick. i usually get a character up to level 30 or so and start a new one (i have about 10 different accounts on universal RPG)
thanks for your help
And i pray for all the lives that were lost yesterday

Hey, on Mythical Realms (greatest trpg server except for down-times) I am a level 102 thief. I just made it last night, and would like to say thief is a very fun class to play! I don't think I will remort at all, because the class is so very fun to play. I like annoying people by mugging them worth of their valuables, and being a general pest in town. Its pretty easy to level thieves, because they are those easy-levelers. I love thieves in general, since I played Thief 1. My template is:
Piercing*+
Stealing*
Hiding*
Backstabbing* only if you have piercing
Dexterity
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Really necessary for thieves
+Can change to your favorite weapon skill, I prefer backstabbing/piercing.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you see me on Mythical Realms, I'll be happy to help you out. In general, here is a rough estimate on my 'timeline' as a thief.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-Went to K-Mine with dagger, padded armor, and my pick axe to see what I could do. Killed Goblin thieves/runts until about level 7. Went on to those pesky Gnolls and got whomped.
-After about level 15-20ish, I went on to Yolanda Stronghold, with my dagger, leather armor, and a few buddies. We kicked their rumps until about level 30-35. (I did not realize I had to upgrade my weapon until about level 45, so I had a dagger up until then.)
-At this time, I went to the Elven Camp, and fought there with my friend Siran, until about level 50. (It was very boring...I often got discouraged.) Notice that I skipped over the Crypt because I died about 5 times from falling into the river before I wisened up and stopped going.
-Now, I was level 50ish. I left and gabbered around, looking for something to do. I picked up a spear or something, and studded leather and headed off to Traveller's Den. Boy I found a great trick here. There is a semi-underground bridge piece there that you can trap enemies behind and kill very easily for mucho exp. I hit level 75ish there and tried Minos. Big mistake. I got repeatedly killed and was discouraged again. I went back to Den for level 82. I hit it.
-------------------------------This following section was completed in one day.-----------------------
-My good friend Siran, and others helped me out with money issues and got me an awlpike and Brigandiers armor (something like that) and we headed off for Minos once again. And again I found a cute trick, you can stand behind the corner and whack at a slice of their model that sticks out the corner. I made level 95ish doing that.
-Now, I stole a wormhole key from someone who shall remain nameless for now, and headed off to...Phens temple with Siran. We whacked on baddies there for a few levels. I made level 100 there. We decided to go to Hell and did.
-At Hell: We were looking around and found a little trick on how to kill efficiently there with no magic. You stand on the little bridge and look straight down and whack the baddies from there. Don't fret if you get hit a few times, just retreat and heal. I am now level 102-104 (I forget) and have been doing great. I hope you can do the same.
Never underestimate the power of a thief.
-Druaga out.

Ranger!
Seriously though, the main reason I'd be a Ranger is for outdoor sleeping. Every other class will be able to max all skills after all the remorts people usually get, but Rangers will be able to max all skills AND sleep outside. Plus, I've always liked Rangers.
Thieves are a good choice too, though. High base piercing and archery modifiers gives you many options. Archery is such a big help through the earlier levels. Later, piercing weapons are incredible good (can you say Naginata and Shinai). While I'm not a big fan of stealing, I suppose that could be a lot of fun too.
Clerics are also a good choice. Look at all the high RL chars...a good many of them are Clerics. Defensive magic is always helpful, and you can always train your endurance and weapon skills fairly easily.
All in all, I'd say it's a matter of personal taste.

A side note, stealing is extremely fun, if you can get away with it. I walk around (hidden) and follow low level remorts, grabbing all the stuff I want, with my new 1000 Stealing =). I stole: a wormhole key, wind walkers, boots of gliding, a ton of money, a ring of xion, and terrorized the newbies at k-mine within a few minutes. I love being a thief. You make a lot of friends/enemies, but its a lot of fun also. Thieves are also formidable fighters, with their backstabbing skill, they can deal lots of damage, and often kill in 1 or 2 hits! Their only weakness is their Armor Tolerance, right now I can only wear Brigandine Armor, which is only a step above spiked leather. Also, the hiding skill can get you out of many a situation, such as being chased by a mean player (PK) or, just to lurk around. And, if you have a friend that just died, you can go stealthily get some of their items back if someone took them. Being a thief has its pros, and its cons, just like any other class. They are hated by mostly everyone, but very good at doing something other than fighting. Stealing.

Fighters rock! Level like a maniac, remort, repeat. Eventually, you become an omni-class... right now, all my mults are 1.4 or higher...3.3 is some cases.

Edit: And at remort 10+ I think any player becomes omni class.
15 now, and the 16th remort is slated for tommorrow... And after enough remorts, all classes become great. However, some get through the initial remorts faster...fighter tends to be one of the fastest. Pali is also good. Bard/Mage are slow.

I find that it's all how you like to play games.
If you like fast-paced games with lots of slicing & dicing and much gnashing of teeth, take the combat-oriented classes.
If you like to wait a while to have fun, with the game picking up speed at the end, take the magic-oriented classes.
Or, if you'd rather have a nice mix between the two, the Paladin & Bard are nice classes...

good post.
Clerics and Paladins are well balanced; a nice mix of fighting and magic (both O and D). Easier to heal, move around the map and level up. Crud, even I made it to remort level 2 in a couple weeks as a cleric, and I don't play much.
But easy isn't always fun. Thief is fun but people tend to accuse you of all sorts of stuff and you might spend a lot of playing time defending yourself against other players AND admins. Course, if it's YOUR server, that's not a prob.
