A tribes 2 RPG Idea. Honor system
Ok how about this.
You only start off with nothing, accept some common cloths, and some money. Maybe a Legendary item, that noone has accept you. Since there is no item limit, i think that would be pretty cool. Also will give thieves something to try to get off of everyone. My friend Locke (online name) suggests That you start off with gloves and punch your way intill you get a weapon...
HONOR SYSTEM
____________
I have a idea how to raise/lower your honor
The more honor you have, the more income you get from your house. The way you get honor added is completing quests right, and helping out newbies, and basicly doing good stuff. But to get in the negitive and be evil, youed have to steal, and do bad stuff like pk newbs. You not only get money from the houses, but you get a additude ranking. Itherway, if you have High Honor or Low honor, you wont get less money. so if you have 100 honor you get an amount of money and if you have -100 you get the same amount.
Or it can be based on your house, if your house is a thief house then they would encourage being evil/stealing and stuff. so youd be ranked really high if you were in a thief house and had honor really low. Vice Versa with the Good houses
Heres the Honor system
71 or more = Lawfully Good
70 to 31 = Neutral Good
30 to -30 = Neutral
-31 to -70 = Neutral Evil
-71 or less = Chaotic Evil
Yes, its just like D&D!
ALSO, i like the idea of all paladins always being Lawfully good, they should be, they are "good" warriors maybe they just turn into a different class if its low.. or like Paladin / Dark Paladin type thing..
Any thoughts?

Little modifications there. The honor system shouldn't be based on giving items to newbies etc. But how a player feels about you. Players will enter a simple options menu and select a few options. (honorable, normal(or some other word), dishonorable).
This affects only the player that chooses that option. The option will make something around your character different based on the selection you made. So the people you know you can trust you can see them as trustworty. The players you know are evil by nature you see as evil.
Your total honor is all of that added together. Honorable is a +1. normal = 0, dishonorable = -1. By default everyones vote for you is 0(normal). People can also change thier votes at any time.
This would be a player based honor system. Therefore it wont be automatic or decided by the game. Your total honor will affect how bots treat you etc. Bots that would be considered bad would like you if you have lower honor, and vice versa.

If they didnt like being pk'ed they would change their vote to you from 0 or 1 to -1

I think that system will make the game more involved. Of course the players total honor will not affect how that person sees them etc. If the player voted -1, dispite your total honor no matter how great it is the player will see you as bad. The honor points should really be a hidden number something you as a player cannot see. You can ask people what they think of you and can get an idea though that also though how good\bad bots treat you. If a bad bot treats you nicely then you know you have negitive honor. With bad honor you shouldn't be able to go on quests of good will to all instead maybe quests like robbing the local bank...

Honour should alter the appearance... Kind of like it would in Black & white. If you are very evil, have a darker model and vice versa for ver honourable.

I did something similar to trpg, unfortantly the newer version came out before I sent it out.. Never worked on updating it.
It was not as much, but it did have some effects, such as stealing from someone, would not effect your honor unless your caught, if your caught then your honor goes down, you can become a known thief...
Pking people lower then half your lvl brings your honor significantly down, if their between the half and your level, then it goes down more slightly.
Bots would have different effects, like if a bot asks you to rescue someone (I had a new zone, so did testing of this their) your alignment goes up, if you kill someone (npcs), it will go down a fair bit, if your caught killing someone (npcs) it will go down much furthur (caught is that they are facing or in a certain radius of you when you attacked, a edited ai function, unfortantly it caused a fair bit of extra lag, never got around that)
Also certain classes of course started with higher honor, a Paladin would have high honor, a neutral class like a fighter would have average, a evil class would have low.
A twist on that, was that certain items were 'semi-sentient' and they needed a amount of honor to use. Evil items needed low, good need high.
I also did a reputation, so you might have a high honor, but no one really knows it, the more quests you do, more reputation goes up, this isent effected by your deeds, just how many quests. The more known you are (higher reputation) different quests became avaible (couldent get this to work, as townbots down read skills, Zel coded that though now)
I did some others, but cant remember, if that helps anyone on ideas for honor based system...

Well i think Tridents theory is the best, honor should be player based..
Like if a person needs money and some guy comes by and gives it to him, then the person can #honor themoneygiver or something..

... break away from the # stuff. JI might code that out and make it easy. (like p for sleep) The best way is you consider there person infront of you and a menu appears. In that menu you have a bunch of options concerning the player one would be honor(or honour, depending if you are US english or England English.) Maybe other options would be to trade/give etc...

ok overall.. i like it
Of course this isnt my decision, but I could try to come up with the code of it in T2, so all you do is have to insert it...

I don't think a player baed honor ssytem is a good idea...if someone doesn't like you they could just smurf your honor to crap...it should be where you can kill both town bots and monster bots. If you kill a town bot, it respawns in a minute or so, but your honor goes down a bit. you go kill an uber, your honor is increased a bit. I can see a thing where you have different reputations in diffeent towns (imagine delkin as your only safe place ). At a cirtain point, your honor will change your team. example: since tribes allows only 8 teams, 7 of those could be honor teams. They could be called
Hero
Honorable
proven
average
dark
sinister
evil
There could be "evil" goblin camps, and holy citadels, heck, the whole map could have pockets of thieve guilds and knight encampments. good bots would target enemies in order of opposite honor from worst to average. average bots wouldn't be attacked by town bots but would ave to pay a little more on items and get not allowed in cirtain castles, etc. There could be areas of great wealth and commerce that only the highest known knights are allowed to enter and mingle with kings, while the darkest towers are open only to those evil enough to have word with the dark lords of the world. bots on your side of honor, even if not your rank, wouldn't attack you unless your honor dropped. I'd explain more, but I don wanna

The player honor system should be based of the account not the aliases. Hence avoiding the above.
Honor teams? Not a good idea because there will already be an enemy (orc's or humans completely depending which side you choose)
