t2rpg Archery.

I think we can really use the chaingun effect(Spread) for archery. The spread of the bow/sling will be affected by your skill. For instance a person with very low skill will have a high spread so his arrow will rarely fly straight. Yet a person with high skill will have a narrower spread making his arrow fly much straighter in the direction he intened. Also we will get rid of the 'miss' for archery so when a arrow strikes a person it will hit him, but there are odds it can glance off the armor or do little damage(partial penetration). If the arrow glances off the armor it should bounce off the person like a blaster does in T2. Also arrows should bounce off the walls if they are travelling at near parrallel to it(blaster effect). This would make archery very realistic instead of your character being perfect with his shot every time. arrows should even stick into the ground and targets at the degree they entered. If the object could not be penetrated it should bounce off and fall to the ground.

--bonuses-
Therefore we could even set up archery tornaments and such with a target.

if arrows sick into armor you wouldnt ever have to buy more!

so maybe a 50 50 chance of an arrow breaking on impact...

Lol, if an arrow broke it would have to be a "Plastic Arrow". Trust me, arrows can't be broken by them hitting something. The only way they can be destroyed, is if a person intentionally snaps them. Otherwise, even a Wooden Arrow, made out of a strong, hardwood (like oak or maple) would be very hard to break

yes what I said is all possible

I have looked at the code it is possible to change the stats of objects(items) as well as people. If the arrows stick into 'soft' things the arch tourny is completely possible. All you need is a target with circles. The arrows stick in someone walks up and looks and scores it as it goes a long. :-) that simple. 'bouncing off walls' is also easy just set it like the blaster shot in T2.

Sounds absolutely great! That would make archery so much more realistic. Only problem I see with it is that if you miss so much at low levels, how are you going to ever get to where you can shoot accurately?

i really hated Final Fantasty Legend 2 on gameboy because my 12 thousand dollar longsword could only swing 50 times before it snapped. and y0shib0y does that too, i dont think it should be in t2.

me trying to get metal on y0shi's ---> "mining mining hum de dum mining mining hum de - SNAP - wha?! DAMNIT!!!"

Breaking and snapping weapons is a good Idea but I think it should be done in stages. Like this

Sharpend long Sword + 20 % damage
Long Sword damage
Dull Long Sword - 20% Damage
Rusty Long Sword - 60 % Damage
Broken - 90% Damage.

At the stages you may go to the smithie and repair the sword. If it breaks it cannot be repaired and you have to buy a new one. Of course break them down into levels of sharpness and dullness would be neat as well

Longsword 50 sharplvl would be normal
100 sharplvl would be razor sharp
70 sharplvl would be sharp
30 sharplvl would be dull
0 sharplvl is VERY dull and is bout to go rusty.
Rusty 10% risk of weapon breaking every swing. Costs good money to fix. Sharpening is very cheap on the other hand. This way will make a constant demand for something and people will have to constantly spend thier money on maintaining their weapons and armor. I believed this was discussed earlier in the design doc threads and finalized there. But adding the break in that matter would be a consiquence for not sharpening stuff.

a rusty weapon should only go rusty if you go into a water zone for a set amount of time (in water for 10 minutes= rusty weapon) and it should be able to accumulate over time (5 minutes plus 3 minutes another time plus 2 minutes an hour later= rusty weapon). After its sharpness goes down, it should become cracked instead. The crack then grows bigger (10% cracked, later it's 50% cracked, so on). Once it reaches 100% cracked, it breaks.

well, rust doesn't "magically" appear on a sword out of nowhere. Rust forms when metal comes in contact with water/is in a moist area for long periods of time.

im still having trouble trying to figure out how the rangers are running full speed and still shooting perfectly on target

we should make it like most FPS games, your very unaccurate when running and jumping, you a lot more accurate when standing still or barely moving

Please GOD NO! Repairing weapons may be more realistic but it is a pain in the ass. Having to pay for a weapon once is enough.

i love the idea about how bows break after you use them so much

all weaps should do that

there should be a str skill, the more str the farther you can shoot your arrows, if its really low then the arrow wont go very far

I think that the prospect of weapons that can be damaged and repaired would be a great addition to TRPG, or T2RPG for that matter.

Just so long as it doesn't cost me an arm and a leg to repair everything.

Another idea would be to have certain players have the skill to repair the items, like dwarves, setting their own cost for the service provided. The more skill, the better the repair is.

If you're going to add rust; do it ONLY if you fall in water. Water is a zone and is already set up for "drowning". Weapons can take a hit there, and how often do you fall in? Ok, newbies do...and that makes sense, that they take damage to weapons as well.

You get fall damage & rust. Maybe provide "lotion" to wipe/repair sword with that you buy (like you buy orbs) 50 coins.

Otherwise, aren't you coding for total hits? Weapons don't fail after a lot of use unless you're hitting stone walls with 'em. Swords get passed down from generation to generation don't they?

The only problem I can see with water degrading your weapons is the boat.

I must've fallen off the boat hundreds of times, (I'm hoping I'm not alone...) and lets say that you fall off of the boat right in the middle of some huge, vertical cliffs. Then what? You spend a long time trying to get back to a smith, as well as back to the boat and to your destination, which can take a very long time.
The end result is that all your stuff rusts and you spend hundreds upon thousands fixing it all at the smith.
That's enough to make someone smash their computer in anger... I know I have once or twice.

Learn to stand in the middle of the boat, by the mast. (This is NOT a put down.) Yeah, I've forgotten about the #cast teleport town-Delkin spot and landed in the drink coming from Yolanda a few times. But I think it's better than trying to keep track of hits on all weapons and degrading the weapon just from normal use.

50 coins for a repair lotion (or oil) that you can carry with you isn't that much.
