Brushing the cobwebs from her brain, Ileni slipped past the singer and the squire, totally unaware of the fledgling development between them. Her dream had fueled a new determination, under laced with burgeoning anger at The Three. With an abrupt nod of thanks, she retrieved her morning sustenance, and then retreated to a deserted spot atop the ridge, facing the ocean. Eating and reading, she wandered through her mother’s journal.

Summoning the undead from earth’s depths to battle thine enemies is best left for times of dire need. She read. Her mother’s warnings of the consequences made her flinch. Her years at the convent made her shy away from that and the darker spells as well. Her mother apparently had also avoided them. Summoning fire to do thy bidding is well worth the practice, particularly in darkest of nights, when mortals and immortals as well dread the light. The flames warm thy soul and burn away thy fears.

The memory of the icy face from her dreams mocked her with cold laughter. Could she do this? Was the creature from her dreams Ileni’s own inner nature or her fear of failure? She knew she had a dark side. Always known it lay dormant, until it sprang to life in nightmares, scaring the Convent residents. All but Old Freidric. He seemed to understand it. Ileni viewed her old mentor anew. The sad wisdom in his eyes made her wonder. Had he experienced them as well? Something in the way he seemed to carry himself made her suspect he had fought his own inner demons. Perhaps. And not always won. Ileni gritted her teeth. Old Freidric believed she could find balance between the light and the dark. ”….burn away thy fears…The Student of the Golden Flame learns the essence of fire heals as well as hurts.” she read. Her mother spoke to her through the written pages, giving her strength. I will melt thee, foul creature from my dream! she promised. And buried her head once more in the book. She remained there, oblivious to the others moving around, pouring over the fire spells, memorizing, imprinting them, until she heard her name called over and over with Sean’s bidding to journey towards Sanctuary.

NPC: Sanctuary Town Resident: Cleamus

"Sean! Seeaaaaaannn!" Cleamus' deep bellow echoed up from below.

The party a top the ridge, preparing to leave, were startled by the sudden appearance of a roughly dressed, bearded man. He appeared to be middle-aged, and very out of breath. Climbing laboriously to the top, he bent in two, resting his arms on his knees.

"Sean, where'd ye be these days last? We...need...." he ran out of breath again, pressing his side. "Sean....town...." he pointed towards the direction the fellowship was headed.

"Go...for the love of man, ...I will....take.....travelers...." and he sat down heavily on a rock, breathing hard and wiping his damp brow.

Saere watched the man pant in confusion. Who is he?

Ewyn suddenly felt like he was being watched and turned quickly. Nothing graced his eyes, or assuaged the feeling. Where is he?

Silver quietly crept through the bushes. He was following the sound of a mans voice. He had heard a deep voice bellowing up the valley screaming someone's name. He followed it with his keen sense of hearing, and had arrived behind a group of people.

One of them turned around and looked directly at the bush Silver was behind. Did this man see him? Who was he?

Quietly he crawled closer. He then recognized the man. It was Ewyn, the young scribe. Standing next to him was Saere, and next to her was Illeni GoldenFlight. Silver stood up, and walked amidst the group. He looked at Illeni, who gave him a smile.

Back! Ileni smiled. Silvran is back. Her keen eyes took him in. Nothing seems amiss.... Happy to see he looked nothing like the vision from her dream, she stepped a little closer and asked,

"Friend Silvran, welcome back! How fare thee?"

She was aware that the others around her turned abruptly in her direction. Concentrating on still assesing Silver's condition she heard a low female growl behind her. It was almost distracting. Avalon apparently was not happy to see him.

NPC: Cleamus

Cleamus continued to mop at his brow, trying to catch his breath, when he noticed the man in greyed armour slowly emerge from the brush. His hand went to his small hunting knife. Something about the stranger in the dented armor didn't feel right. Then he heard the older woman call out:

"Friend Silvran, welcome back! How fare thee?"

Cleamus shrugged. Huh! Guess I was wrong. He realized that the events in town might have made him a little jumpy. He was just about to turn and talk to Mistress Avalon when he saw the stranger lunge towards the woman.

Without a chance to utter a warning cry, the man in the armor drew his sword and ran it through the older woman standing in front of him. The look of surprised horror on her face as she fell was echoed on his own.

The horror on Ewyn's face was replaced by recognition and dismay. He spotted a hefty brench on the ground, picked it up and brang it across the back of Silver's head.

He fell like a stone enchanted.

(ooc - what the hell are you doing Goldy?)

Shock, horror, pain. Betrayal. All flashed through her head as she fell. Her body was going numb. She grabbed at her talisman, the journal. Face in the ground, she smelled the damp dirt and the metallic scent of her own blood. She put a tentative hand to her side. It was wet, but not dripping. ….Not……fatal…… her trained mind grasped. Inside she started to laugh. The icy voice from her dreams lashed out in laughter until Ileni finally passed out.

ooc: giving Ileni a good reason to embrace her dark side

"Friend Silvran, welcome back! How fare thee?"

And then Silver stabbed the old healer. Holy Phen's Temple! He stabbed her! Matty couldn't believe he saw it even though it happened right in front of him.

She had this funny look of surprise on her face and then she fell over. Matty jumped forward but it was too late, Ewyn had bashed Silver over the head with a branch.

"Is she dead?" he asked to no one in particular. What would the group do without the healer now? Then he saw her hand come up and wipe at blood on her side. "She's alive! Somebody throw me her pack! Hey you, Avalon, help me out!" Matty figured that he was the best chance Ileni had to live, since his mother had also been a healer and he sort of knew his way around potions.

He caught the bag the girl threw at him (pretty hard, too) and pawed through the crystals until he found the one he needed.

"Roll her over, yeah, like that." He poured some of the potion on to her wound, and the other down her throat. Come on, come on, swallow. he thought. The old woman sputtered a bit so Matty assumed it went down her throat. Yes, her color isn't pure white anymore. Good.

Then Avalon started bandaging the healer with strips from her own pack. Looks like she knows what she's doing too. Hmmm.... maybe she's learned to patch up the folks she's bashed. The two of them worked together to cover Ileni with a warm blanket.

"Not bad." Matty nodded at the bandages, then grinned at Avalon. "You just might be handy to have around."

Avalon glared at him from the otherside of the sleeping healer.

NPC: SEAN

Sean watched the whole scene unfold. As the others bent down to help the healer Sean spoke to his friend. "Cleamus I can't go back now, I am out of supplies. I need you to go ahead of us and get some strong men, we may need to carry at least one of these men into town."

NPC: Cleamus

Cleamus, looking white and strained, mopped his brow one more time. A short, curt nod in Sean's direction and he backed slowly away from the group of travellers. Once he felt safely away, he grabbed his hunting knife in one hand, raised a quick fare-thee-well with the other, turned, and ran back down towards the town.

The sounds of breaking brush and a breathless refrain of "...hurry...hurry...hurry" marked his departure.
