OOC: Hope you can find a way to get into this one... enjoy.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

H'Dero got up before sunrise that morning. He was down in his workshop, forging away. A shop owner in the town of Ralen had custom ordered a set of splint mail. H'Dero was finishing up under the heat of his work space. Wiping his brow and stretching, he stood up and held the armor up. "Beautiful..." he remarked, smiling. By this time, the sun had begun it's daily rise. H'Dero packed this splint mail into his trusty old bag which he slung over his back firmly. He stepped outside into the cobblestone streets. Most of the Keldrin folk had awoken and were beginning their morning routines. Most of the action was taking place in the marketplace, in which the hustle and bustle was nothing but a distant murmur from H'Dero's standpoint. He strolled into the stable where he saddled and untethered his horse. He trotted out of town, and galloped onto the mountainside. He had been to Ralen many times, and it was routine. But he had mixed feelings about one thing.

His confident gaze into the horizon vanished as he crossed the entrance to the infamous Keldrin Mine. He stared in disgust at his old home, half burned to the ground by the Goblins so many years ago. He fixed his eyes on the horizon, trying to forget what he had just saw. He usually tried to avoid this area, but this morning it had slipped his mind.

A sling-toting goblin peered out the entrance of the Mine as he had heard rustling in the distance. He saw a figure on a horse, moving quickly through the area. He called back to several other of his lanky green comrades which came up next to him. One of them handed him an arrow shaped rock. The goblin armed his sling and took a shot towards the unfortunate rider.

H'Dero blocked his mind of the Mine as he was finishing passing through the area. He heard a thoomp coming from his right. He quickly turned his head. He saw the green hide of a goblin standing at the entrance and a grey object zipping towards him. His eyes opened wide. The rock buried itself into the belly of the horse. The horse neighed in a horrible high pitched whine, broke it's gallop, and flipped over on it's side. H'Dero flew off of the horse, losing grip of his forged prize. He was slightly injured. He stood up and immediately crouched back down and unsheathed his sword. His anger flared, as the four goblins stood at the entrance cackling away at his misfortune. His face full of fury and crazy with distemper he bounded towards the goblins...

H'Dero Lindir's View

OOC: Need a char to come in set immediately after this...

------------------------------------------------------------------------

H'Dero ran furiously with his sword at his side. The goblins rushed to arm another sling shot. A whistling grey rock whizzed by H'Dero's ear. He stumbled in his stride but regained posture. The goblins, realizing the sling had no further effectiveness, pulled out tawny rusty knives. H'Dero cried out as he hopped onto the ledge of the entrance. He brought his sword down onto one of the goblins, ripping through it's chest. The other three screamed out at him, swinging their knives. H'Dero poked his sword forward like a spear and the tip punctured the shoulder of one of the other goblins. It dropped it's knife and ran back. The other two continued to advance on him. From around the corner in the first long corridor inside the mine emerged another group of goblins. H'Dero cleaved down one of the approaching goblins and kicked the other in the head. It slammed into the wall and, when collapsing, met the edge of H'Dero's blade. H'Dero, infuriated, charged for the newly discovered goblins. One of the goblins raised a sling and let out a rock. It planted itself in H'Dero's armor, into his chest. He stumbled backwards, and fell down in pain. He struggled furiously to regain stance as the goblins approached...

NPC

Canad struggled wearily towards the prospering town of Keldrin, pulling his heavily laden cart behind him. He paused as he came over the crest and noticed some leering goblins and a man near the Mines. He was no fighter, but he knew that this was the same man who had led the Army only a little while ago in place of Marius.
Canad let go of his cart and darted towards Keldrin, hoping the man won and protected his cart. His mind raced and he sought Marius to tell him the goblins were reappearing.

Canad glanced behind him and nearly stumbled. A goblin leaped away from the pack and began to chase him!
Canad ran down the steep path, pausing only to regain his footing.

Joseph Silvran's View

Joseph swung his rapier at the goblin, and cut right through it's neck What in Phens name? I thought we killed all the Goblins?! thought Silver.

Joseph noticed another Goblin chasing after a man. That man had left a cart behind. Joseph walked up and started pulling the cart to Keldrin, after the other Goblin and the man....

Lady Saere-ly Earenda's View

Saere-ly panted from exhaustion. She had been climbing the mountain for the past 4 hours. The craggy cliffs had ripped one of her travelling suits right down the center. She thanked the Three that she was wearing her worst coran suit. She slipped it off and put on another one.
Saere-ly looked down at Keldrin and marvelled about how small it looked from this height. She felt in her pack for her lute. The clarinet-like instrument was new. Her flute was packed at the bottom of her pack and she was anxious to try the lute, being tired of high pitched whistling of the flute. The deep tones of the lute on a high moutain was the rest she needed. She played a practice note and adjusted the reed. Then she launched into a short ballad. A yelp echoed up the cliffs. Saere-ly jerked out of her trance. She packed her instrument away and ran to the cliffs. She slid to a stop at the edge and glanced down. The heights made her dizzy, but she shook her head to clear it and beheld a tide of goblins pouring out of the Mines.
Saere-ly spied the paladin Silver amongst them, as well as Marius' blacksmith friend. They were pockets of white in a black sea of goblin and orc skins. She grasped her hunting horn at her side and took a deep breath. The earthshattering blast echoed right to Keldrin.

Marius Caspian's View

Marius jerked his head towards the Mines. His heart wrenched as he heard Saere-ly's horn. Oh no! She never uses it unless... He broke off at a run.

Lady Saere-ly Earenda's View

Meanwhile... Saere-ly was packing her things and put her bag down. Then she ran to the cliff and blew another blast. The most horrid thing that had ever happened met her eyes. The whole swarm started pouring up the cliffs towards her! The paladin and the blacksmith were fine, but the agile goblins had tied them up, and were helping each other up the crags. Her eyes widened as the sight of them springing with inhuman power from cliff to cliff. It would be a matter of moments before she would be captured as well. She sprinted towards the River.

Joseph Silvran's View

The sound of the horn startled Silver. He knew that sound. It was Lady Saere. The Goblin Horde began swarming towards her. Silver tried to wiggle free of the ropes that bound him, but he could hardly move. His hand brushed across something hard on his belt. What stupid goblins! They left my knife! Silver slowly pulled it out of his belt (This was quite a feat, considering he was tied up) and flipped it around. He gently grasped it by the center of the blade, and began to saw theough the ropes. As soon as he was free, he jumped up. H'Dero the blacksmith slumped down, and Silver realized he was unconscience.

Off the top of the hill, a scream echoed.

Joseph ran towards the pile where the goblins left the weapons. He grabbed his rapier and ran towards the Goblin Horde....

Saere-ly screamed in terror as she stumbled and the goblins swarmed over her. They ripped at her coran suit and tore it in several places. The slobbering monstrosities wore grins and Saere's heart faltered. She struggled to bring her horn to her mouth and fastened her lips around it. She blew two blasts that spread the goblins. A few were pushed off the side and she winced. She struggled but the goblins tied her arms and her feet, and ripped at her clothes. They carried her to the shaft in the center of the plateau on top of the mountain. She widened her eyes in terror. The goblins fastened her to a rope and lowered her down the dark tunnel. Saere felt cold as the wind whistled through the open places in her clothes. Her pack was still on her, and she thanked the Three for that.

Joseph Silvran's View

Silver sighed. How in Phen's name am I supposed to save her now? He began running to Keldrin. I might as well get my armor Silver thought.
On his way, he ran into Marius Caspian. Marius was in his full battle armor, and looked ready for just that. Silver explained the entire situation to Marius. When Silver turned to point where the goblins were, he gasped in astonishment. The Goblins were gone...

Ileni GoldenFlight's view

It was calm in the garden surrounding the convent. The early morning air suited Ileni's need for solitude. Kneeling in the soft, rich dirt, she inhaled the scents of flowers and green leaves. The peaceful atmosphere was very soothing. She'd grown accustomed to it all these years...

Suddenly a blast of soul-shattering sound rent the air! The sound of a horn carried loud and sharp....urgency in its tone.

...from the direction of the mine?!??..thought Ileni, stunned. She stumbled to her feet, scattering blossoms and herbs around her.

She could hear footsteps hurrying into the courtyard behind her.

Convent Priest's View

"Ileni! Gather your staff! There's a Goblin attack at the mines! Make haste, we have need of healers!"

Ileni GoldenFlight's View

Moving quickly, Ileni hurried towards the room where healing portions were stored. Blessed be! Keep us all safe! she prayed to the gods, scooping potions from the shelves and thrusting them into a rough, rope pack. Grabbing her staff from the corner where it leaned, she slung the pack across her back and moved rapidly out of the thick, cool building. She could hear the anxious sounds of the priests preparing beds and ripping linens for bandages. There was a underlying nervousness to their actions that spurred her even faster, past the stone walls of the convent, towards the sound of heavy fighting.

Green hills blurred past as she plunged clumsily down the valley above the mine. Cresting the hill that led to the entrance, she saw...

Marius had ran to save Saere, while Silver and most of the Keldrin men followed him to attack the goblins. They ran directly into the crowd of greenskins, and so the fight for control of the mines began.....

H'Dero Lindir's View

OOC: You've seemed to forgot about me...

------------------------------------------------------------------------

H'Dero groggily opened his eyes. Where am I? he asked himself semi-consciously. He quickly regained knowledge of his surroundings and what was going on. The area was surprisingly quiet, minus the dead bodies of goblins littering the hillside. He stood himself up and ran to the entrance of the mine, where his sword lay. He stood all senses alert at the entrance for several minutes, hearing some sort of movement or action eminating from inside. Soon enough a group of robed men and women rushed from the right...

Ileni GoldenFlight's view

Slaughtered goblin carcasses lay splattered against the hill, green blending into green. Scrawny, twisted arms and limbs, curling bony fingers, some twitching in final throes.

Ugh! That was more than I needed to see. Turning her head, but not able to avoid the sight, Ileni clutched her stomach and persevered. I must move past these.

Maneuvering through the fallen debris was not easy for her, but Ileni knew she needed to press on into the mine. She could hear faint sounds wafting up from, what seemed to be, the bowels of the earth. Shivering at the sound, Ileni noticed the blacksmith from Keldrin, the one they call H’Dero suddenly raise up from the ground and move warily toward the entrance. He retrieved his sword and stood peering inward…into the shadows.

Ileni called out: "Hail, Blacksmith! Have you need of healing?"

H'Dero replied simply, "Yes," while checking his sword.

Ileni set down her staff, spread her hands towards the blacksmith and began to perform the healing process the priests had sent her do.

H'Dero, not badly injured, responded quickly to the healing, and was anxious to be on his way into the mine.

"Coming?" he asked, looking down his great height at the short healer next to him.

Ileni nodded her agreement, instinctively uttering an incantation for protection for the two of them.

Gods, continue your blessings for protection! Ileni implored as they moved into the entrance.

OOC: They put my arm in a splint again, so I can't type as well...

IC: Marius wore a look of haggardness. His trek up the narrow mountain trail had worn him out, being in heavy battle gear. He crested the ridge and stopped dead. Parts of Saere's clothing lay scattered all around. He felt a sinking feeling as he saw the tears. No blood was evident, and the strips of clothing continued to a shaft in the cliff. He saw a rope leading down, and started to strip off the heavy armor. He left it with some reluctance and started rappelling down the shaft. A scream echoed up to him, and a faint help! He redoubled his efforts and soon disappeared in the darkness.

Ileni GoldenFlight's View

OOC: Rumble: get back here! Ileni isn't a hero and Strider wants Saere saved!

-----
The mine was growing darker as they moved further in. The floor was rough and uneven. Rocks protruded here and there, from the floors and the tunnel walls, making swift travel difficult for Ileni. Where are you leading us, blacksmith? she wondered, as she struggled to keep up with his long strides. Some part of her mind took note that the blacksmith acted like he knew where he was going. I hope so. I have no idea where we are.

Her grip on the black oak staff she carried grew tighter, as she leaned on it more and more for support. The soft “thuck” of her staff hitting the tunnel floor echoed oddly around the mine.

“Heeelllllppp…….” A faint, distorted, cry wafted up from somewhere ahead. It sounded female. Young. Scared.

Ileni froze, hair starting to stand on end. I KNOW that voice! Eyes wide, she turned a startled glance toward H'Dero. “Saere?” she mouthed, stunned.

H'Dero nodded grimly and continued his charge deeper into the mine, towards the sound of the voice.

Phen HELP US! Ileni prayed fervently. Determination flooded through Ileni, lending strength to her footsteps. She rushed after H'Dero.

H'Dero Lindir's View

OOC: Sorry, had a quick meal

------------------------------------------------------------------------

H'Dero darted through the semi-familiar hazy paths. He remembered gazing the miners in awe when he was a child in the last open chamber they passed. He was seeking vengeance, then more than ever. He hopped onto a crevice. The group of healers struggled to keep up with him. He looked back. "Hurry up!" he scolded silently. He ushered them forward ahead of him and he covered the rear. Another scream echoed through the excavation. "Stop!" he raised his arm firmly. The healers halted and slunk past behind H'Dero. He knew they had taken her to their "throne room". The goblins had taken H'Dero there when he was kidnapped, so many years ago. It was behind the wall in front of him. His eyes full of a silent rage, he stepped forward towards the opening. The healers stood frozen. Goblin talk was heard. "Let go of me! HE--" yelled a muffled Saere. H'Dero looked back and the healers got ready to pounce behind him. He lost all patience and barged into the goblin's chamber.

OOC: Try having a shower with a cast on...

IC:

Saere was screaming herself hoarse. Her voice was blessed never to crack, but she was running out of breath. She saw two familiar faces beyond the doorway and screamed for help again.
The goblins swarmed towards the door, and the ones carrying her took her into a room that had strange markings and a hole in the ceiling. She was strapped to a table and she wriggled to make her clothes more modest, as they were torn in some very inconvenient places.

OOC: LOL GOLDY!

IC: Silver realized that they had destroyed the horde of goblins, and the rest of them had retreated into the mines. Most of the people from Keldrin who had come to help had left. Silver climbed t othe top of the mountain and happened upon Marius's battle armor. He also noticed a trail of clothes that could only belong to Saere, as they were coran. Silver ran to a shaft dug into the mountqain and listened. He heard goblin yells, and a female human sceam. That could only be Saere though Silver solemnly. He began to rapel down the shaft, and soon caught up to Marius...

H'Dero Lindir's View

H'Dero lashed forward and cut through a spear-wielding goblin. The other goblins, startled, made menacing faces towards H'Dero and the healers, while approaching with their weapons poised. A magical shield pulsated over H'Dero, couresty of the healers, and it absorbed several slashes by his green foes. A jab here, an elbow there, H'Dero was insane with feelings of revenge. With the healer's support H'Dero managed to rid the room of goblins. "No sign of Saere..." murmured one of the healers. H'Dero's flaming eyes darted around the room. A muffled scream echoed down yet another passageway. "C'mon!" yelled H'Dero and he sprinted forward. The healers scrambled up behind him.

Marius was in a fury. Saere was being held behind a wall of bristling knives and picks that he couldn't penetrate. A massive troll parted the ranks and stepped forward to meet him. With a roar it hurtled forwards, smashing into Marius and nearly knocking him over. A clean sweep from Marius knocked the troll's sword up and behind him. Marius drew back his sword and felt a tearing sensation in his gut. The troll withdrew the cruel curved knife, blood glistening on the cold steel.
It happened too fast, Marius realized, and now I can never help her.. With a dying gasp, he slid to the ground.

Silver finally ended up at the ground, and was taken aback by what he saw. There laying in fonr ot him was Marius, leader of the Keldrin defenses, and dear friend, slumped agaisnt the wall bleeding profusely. Ileni GoldenFlight's view

Blessed be The Three, preserve us!Ileni muttered as she and the other healers constantly surrounded their group in pulsating energy. The blacksmith’s gone mad. He’s fighting as if he’s ten men. The room was filling with splattered goblin’s blood and the gurgling sounds of their deaths. It seemed like there were hundreds of them, a constant green tide that was only held back by the fury in the blacksmith’s eyes.

Time seemed to pause as Ileni focused on the task of keeping H’Dero, and herself, shielded. The energy and the vigilance required were starting to take a toll on some of the older healers;’ Ileni could see them tiring. She backed further into a darkened corner, to provide better coverage for herself, and to gain a better perspective of the on-going battle. Slaughter, she corrected herself mentally. She increased her concentration and sent a healing web towards Old Freidric, who stumbled a little from fatigue. She strengthened his protection shield as well and then turned back towards H’Dero. He is our way out of here, as well as our best hope for rescuing Saere. Saere! Ileni looked around, straining all her senses…

“No sign of Saere…” she muttered.

Ileni clutched her staff, ready to use it when necessary. She was starting to tire as well, her ability to conjure turning sluggish. The wall against her back felt rough, and cold, but a welcome support.

Suddenly a scream echoed from down another passageway. Saere! Thoughts of rest fled with the need to move towards that sound. The blacksmith had already lunged out the door, far quicker than any of the healers could move. He yelled back at them to follow as he dashed ahead.

Ileni moved as fast as she could, stumbling in places where the rocks were slick with blood. Old Freidric was on the floor, Young Timac giving him a precious healing potion. He looked tired, but uninjured. Timac, noticing Ileni, and the others, waved them on. “We shall find thee, soon.” Timac said firmly. Ileni fled in the direction of the charging blacksmith, the other healers with her.

Running down the dark passageway, Ileni suddenly heard a roar of anguish and fury reverberate through the mine. It was the battle-cry of a wounded warrior. The kind that proclaimed a beloved one had fallen and must be avenged. It was a cry of pain that tore through Ileni’s soul. Her knees started to buckle. She knew that voice as well. It belonged to Silver of Keldrin.

The goblins parted before Saere and her heart stopped as she saw her former master lying in a pool of his own blood. A roar of fury rolled out of the corridor and Saere was bathed in the light of a torch. The paladin had come! "Save Marius!" Saere cried desperately, weeping. A goblin withdrew a knife and cut a shallow gash in her leg. Saere screamed in agony. The slash felt like a dozen elf-wasps.

Silver stabbed the troll right through its icy heart. With a cry of fury, he began to run through the center of the Goblins. A slice here, a stab there, he decimated half of the Goblins before one got the best of him and stabbed hm right into the side....

H'Dero Lindir's View

Cold sweat trickled down H'Dero's face. With huge lumbering strides he tumbled into the goblin-occupied chamber. Eyes wide open with insanity he plunged his sword into the nearest goblin. There he saw Silver of Keldrin, clutching his side as he battled, and Saere tied down in the center. The healers managed to scurry up behind H'Dero and Silver and help them. The goblins retaliated as best the could. One lunged towards H'Dero and managed to scrape it's knife across his face. H'Dero cried out and grabbed the goblin by the throat, lancing it into another one.

After a few minutes the remaining goblins retreated deeper into the mine. Saere wriggled for help. Silver ran to Saere and helped her up, and the healers were also tending to her. H'Dero began to breathe normally, until he saw something he would never forget. Concealed in the corner lay Marius, bleeding profusely. H'Dero's triumphant expression was wiped clean from his face. He dropped his sword and slowly walked over to Marius. He stood there for a moment and just stared at his face. Time seemed to stop as he looked down on his cold, dead eyes. H'Dero lifted his gaze. The only sound heard was the dust settling. The musty air mixed with the blood of goblins and the blood or Marius produced a foul stench. "How many more..." he started "how many more will these goblins take?" Silver, Saere, and the healers turned and stared at H'Dero. "We have to act" he stated firmly. "NOW." Everyone in the room peered solemnly at each other. H'Dero bent over, picked up his sword, and sheathed it. He looked down at a mangled goblin. He stomped angrily down on it. Amid the bloody mess and the chaos surrounding it, everything was peaceful, for the moment. "I am not losing anyone else in here." he declared. "This mine, is our mine, and we must liberate it!"
