Tribes RPG Quickstart Guide
(This document originally copied from a post by Robert Olsen at http://pub48.ezboard.com/fdtcommuni...topicID=4.topic)
1. Make sure you have the latest version of Tribes installed. If you need to update your game, you can find the patches at: http://sierrastudios.com/games/trib.../downloads.html
2. Download and install the TribesRPG mod. It can be found at: http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~rpg/for...hp?s=&forumid=7
You will need to install the "full version" and the Update. The full version is not "current" so you NEED to get both the full version and the update. Again, YOU NEED THE UPDATE.
3. When setting up your tribes "player" you need to put a password into the "Other Info" area. You will not be able to log on otherwise.
4. If you log on and it tells you that your name can not contain funky characters or something, you'll need to change it.
5. When in the game, there is one key that is very important, the TAB key. It allows you to distribute your skill points to your skills. (Skills advance through use, and you get skill points to distribute when you level up.)
6. To type in commands hit the "T" key, then the command. 90% of the "extra" stuff is done this way. To talk to a NPC, the first thing you need to do is hit "t" then type "Hail." Their response will have keywords that you can type to trigger different things such as BUY, DEPOSIT, WITHDRAW, etc.
*You need to download and print out a copy of the command list. It's available at the TribesRPG Documentation forum. Here's a shortcut: http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~rpg/for...hp?s=&forumid=9
7. It's a good idea to download and install the UltimaRPGPack Script. It gives you shortcuts to all of the spells and special actions that can be performed by using the V key. I use it CONSTANTLY during the game. There is more info available about this in the following thread on the message board.
pub48.ezboard.com/fdtcomm...ID=6.topic
8. If find yourself trapped or falling off the map, hit the "t" key and type "#recall".
9. When you die, you drop whatever weapon you were holding. So if you're new, be sure you're not holding your pickaxe when you die. You will need your pickaxe to mine for rocks, gems, etc. They're $500 to replace.
10. Pay attention to what character class you pick and develop the skills that said class is good at. If you are a fighter class and try to develop magic skills, you will develop them, but VERY slowly. If you work on fighter skills (weapons) you will see great advancement very quickly. Here's a list of the classes and skill ratings for those classes: http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~rpg/sho...?s=&threadid=63
*Keep in mind that server operators have the option to change classes as they see fit. Comet TribesRPG server has two new classes, and many different stats from the original game.
11. You can get information on ANYTHING in the game with the "#w" command. Hit the "t" key and type in "#w {object}" and you'll get information on whatever object you type in. This also works for spells, classes, skills, etc.
*If you install the UltimaRPG Script, you can hit CTRL-A to get a list of all items in the game, and select the one you want info on.
Finally, there is an additional Newbie Guide on this site that this quickstart guide hasn't covered. Once you get into the game and start having questions, that newbie guide is a good place to find the answers. You can find it here: http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~rpg/sho...s=&threadid=199
