Yep another one of my crackpot ideas. I'm keeping all these in a file btw.

-Different mining- The mining area would be much larger, instead of a single crystal, you would be able to mine almost anywhere in the mine. The gems would
be different at various locations. Perhaps you could come up with an equation that would give the chances of finding certain gems based on your location.
This equation would change over time. Mining skill would still allow you get better gems but to a slightly lesser degree. To make up for it, mining skill would allow you to locate the good gems. Every time you take a swing there would be a chance, based on your mining skill, that some directions would be displayed. something like "Mining looks better to the North." I think this would be cool, it would make mining more interesting and it could create cool things like claim disputes (newbies following the good miners around) In fact, This could be encouraged by putting a limit on how much of the good gems could be mined - once all the gold was mined say, you would have to wait untill the equation changed for there to be anymore. "You newbies stop taking my gold! i found it!" *kills newbies* hehe cool.

yeah and you could do stuff like sell the location of the gold to people.

And there could be the occasional "gold rush"

Throws a new twist in mining: Do I go with only pick and paws to carry more, or do I bring my favorite weapon to whack squatters?

It shouldnt cause lag. If you've played with quest scripting any, there's already code to tell what .dis file you are looking at.

I am very bad at this kind of stuff, I want to learn how to script but I do not know where to start :(

And computer classes are a waste of time I think, because what I want to do has not much to do with them

That's what I originally wanted to do for TRPG, but because I didn't have any good prefabs, I used CargoCrates. It just stuck to that ever since...

The way it would work is that there would be crystal patches scattered all over the walls. These would have empty LOD's so that you wouldn't see them from 10 meters away (no FPS loss).

The patches wouldn't be too tough to make, however the coding for all this will require alot of thinking and planning. You guys aren't coders so you don't realize how much work this is =)

However I am seriously considering this and will be giving it a lot of thought.

Yeah you would need a 3d density function for each gem type you wanted in the mine basically. Coming up with these may be difficult. hmm...
